Cratus worked with Welsh construction giant Watkin Jones to help gain unanimous planning consent from Bournemouth Borough Council for their £120m mixed use redevelopment project in the town’s Lansdowne area. The scheme covers three separate sites – Holdenhurst Road, Christchurch Road and St Swithuns Road – and delivers over 20,000 sq. m. of office and teaching accommodation; a 128-bedroom hotel; over 900 bedroom spaces of purpose built, managed student accommodation for Bournemouth University; nearly 200 sq. m. of retail/ commercial floor space and a new pedestrian plaza located between Holdenhurst Road and Oxford Road.
By providing political analysis, insight and strategic advice, Cratus was able to help Watkin Jones identify the Planning Board’s key issues, and determine how best to overcome them with a positive communications campaign. In the build up to the development’s determination, Cratus worked to enthuse local businesses, which overwhelmingly welcomed the proposals; a key message in Cratus’ narrative for councillors. Our work helped to ensure that the planning committee approved the application unanimously.
